“A Day in Kindergarten” – Parent Education at the StartWien Hub
In our project StartWien Hub not only adult education is central – early childhood education is also an essential part of the program. In addition to language skills, teaching daily routines is also key – as these are very important for well-being and for later entry into kindergarten.
Parental involvement is also essential, with separate workshops being designed on various topics. The first four interactive workshops, with around 100 participants from the German courses, were now implemented on the topic of kindergarten in coordination with MA10. As a platform for parent education, the workshops aimed to raise parents' awareness of the importance of early education and the role kindergarten plays in this. The workshops were specifically designed for the target group, with the content specifically tailored to language levels Alpha and A1.
Participation was the key! Through various exercises and games, the parents were able to familiarize themselves with typical everyday situations, rules, and the daily routine at the kindergarten, thus developing a sense of everyday kindergarten life and learning many new terms. They also filled a healthy lunch box together. The feedback from the participants was very positive!
Further parent education workshops are planned for April – this time on the topic of multilingualism and language awareness.
