Experience early childhood language development and multilingualism through play
A colorful afternoon at the Wieden Library
On April 22, 2025, everything revolved around the languages of the youngest children at the Wieden Library : As part of the Vienna Integration Weeks , an information event entitled "Promoting my child's languages in everyday life“ took place. In cooperation with the Vienna Library, the event invited participants to explore the topic of early childhood language development in a creative and everyday way.
The language support expert Janine Fischer (Interface Wien – StartWien Hub) presented a variety of books, games, and methods that can support children in their language development and promote multilingualism. The focus was on shared discovery and experimentation.
Parents and children were able to get involved at several interactive stations. Whether it was picture books and early reading books, multilingual stories, story cubes, reading crocodiles, or colorful story stones, everything could be touched, tried out, or even made by hand.
In addition to practical tips, there was also plenty of room for questions, exchange and inspiration – a successful afternoon that once again demonstrated how diverse and playful language learning can be.
